Bada means biggest and Osa means fast. This fast is considered to be the biggest among all the fasts of Odisha. Lord Shiva is worshiped in this fast.

Tithi and Dates of Bada Osha 2021
This fast is observed on Kartika Shukla Paksha Chaturdashi (the fourteenth day of the bright fortnight of Kartika Masa), that is, 1 day before Kartika Purnima.
According to the English calendar, this fast is falling on November 17 - 2021 (17-11-2021).

Women keep fast throughout the day in Bada Usha. In this fast, women do not even drink water.

In this fast, a rice pudding is made which is called Bada Osha Jau. It is made by adding rice, jaggery, coconut, and special spice. Kheer is worshiped near Shiva Ji.
