khudurukuni osha or valukuni osha or tapoi osha is a traditional festival celebrated by unmarried girls in Odisha.
This festival is celebrated every Sunday of the month Vadarav.

Odisha is a state with a festival full of. In 12 months 13 festivals are celebrated. It is called in the local language that "bara masa re tera osha." Khudurukuni is one of them.
khudurukuni Osha is a local festival of Odisha. It's mostly celebrated in the northeast part of Odisha. Mostly it's a girls-centered festival but newly married women also celebrated this festival.

Odisha is an Indian state situated in the southeast part of country. It mostly known for Lord Jagannath in the world. Bhubaneswar is the capital of Odisha. Its a costal state shares its cost line with Bey of Bengal.
Many festivals are celebrated in this state. Festive season never ends here. Khudurukuni is a local festival celebated in this state.
What is Khudurukuni Osha
Khudurukuni Osha is celebrated in the month of Bhadra(August-September). Mostly unmarried girls celebrated this festival for well fare of their brother.

It is also known as valukuni Osha. It show the care and love of brother-sister relationship. Its a girl centered festival besides it women also celebrated this festival. Now in the modern day most of ladies celebrated it.

How it is celebrated
On the Sunday morning of Bhadrab month, all young girls' wake up early morning in a rural area of Odisha. As it is a holiday so girls' busy the whole day with this festival. They collected various flowers here and there and then tied them with various designs which looks very beautiful. There are different puja mandaps in one village where this puja is celebrated. So There is a kind of competition between the puja mandaps. So all tried to collect more flowers to decorate their own puja mandap beautifully.
Then they clean the puja mandap, it may be someone's veranda or maybe the worship place village Goddess(Gram Devi Mandira). Then the group of girls goes to take a bath in the village pond. There they also do a ritual called Baluka stapana in the local language after they completing their bath.
Now it may be 12 pm of the day, they go to the puja mandap with some kind of fruits for prasad. They offer it to the goddess. Girls also wear new clothes at this festival, but it's not compulsory.
Then they come to their home break their fast by taking the prasad and then have their lunch which is veg, cooked without onion and garlic.
Then in the evening, they come to the puja mandap with a plate full of Prasad which includes coconut, bananas, and ukhuda(some kind of local thing made from rice and jaggery.). Then they recite the poem which is about the festival, some kind of folk(Taapoi song). Then offer prasad to the goddess of khudurukuni and now the day is over also the festival.
On the every Sunday of the month the rituals continue once again.
Rituals
In this festival, brothers are also helping their sisters to celebrate the festival. They help their sisters to arrange the puja. The brother and sister's love and affections show here. The brothers arrange puja and the sisters worship goddess Mangala to keep out their brothers from all kinds of difficulties.
Also, married ladies celebrate this festival for their brother. A pack of puja ingredients comes from her father's end to in-laws' house after marriage on this occasion called Khudurukuni Bhara.
The ritual of this festival is to worship Goddess Mangala and offer her Khuda bhaja as prasad. An ancient story behind this is that a girl named Tapoi worships Maa Mangala in difficult condition to come back to her brothers.

In this blog, I try to explain my state's rituals and cultures. Khudurukuni Osha is a local festival in which tiny ager girls enjoy their childhood also learns about their culture and rituals. Girls' indirectly taught how to worship goddesses, how to be responsible towards family members, and also the purest love of brothers and sisters.
